When I first read this, I was shocked, thinking, “What on earth is this?!”
However, it’s this extreme rule that makes the work so incredibly fascinating.

The protagonist, Yumeko Jabami, is a refined and elegant girl in her daily life.
However, she completely transforms once the gambling begins.
What gave me the chills the most was her overwhelming “eye power” drawn by Naomura-sensei.
Her eerily beautiful expressions, especially when she’s in a pinch, are so captivating that you can’t help but be drawn in.
Saori Hayami’s performance as Yumeko in the anime is also truly magnificent, perfectly capturing that “beautiful madness.”
It’s absolutely top-tier!
🐎 The Reality of Gambling in Japan Dreams and Reality
Japan has strict gambling regulations, but in reality, there are many familiar forms of it.
For example, the “Takarakuji” (Lottery).
They say buying a ticket is like “buying a dream,” and I’ve tried my luck a few times myself. The result?
It always ended with me shouting, “It never wins, dammit!” (laughs).
To sum up the Japanese rules races like horse and bicycle racing are “legal” as they are public, but betting money on games like poker or Mahjong is strictly “illegal,” even among friends!
It’s surprisingly strict, isn’t it?
Pachinko manages to stay legal by being classified as a “game.” With the new casino plan in Osaka, Japan’s gambling landscape might change soon.
While gambling in Japan is complex, its “ambiguity” is precisely what makes it so unique and interesting.
As an aside, all this talk makes me yearn for a trip to Las Vegas. Competing with a mad smile like Yumeko under those neon lights—well, I don’t actually have the guts for that (laughs), but I still admire that unique atmosphere.
